Larkmead Wine Dinner 4.23.19

April 23, 2019 06:00 PM until April 23, 2019 09:30 PM

Join celebrated Winemaker Dan Petroski of Larkmead Winery for a Napa Valley themed wine dinner featuring a five-course tasting menu by Alma Chef de Cuisine Maggie Whelan.

Larkmead was founded in 1895 in Southern Calistoga, CA and has been continuously operated by the Solari Family since 1948. 110 acres of vines are spread across the valley floor, stopping just shy of the two opposing mountain ranges. The vineyard is dedicated to Bordeaux varieties, and has been completely redeveloped since 1995 with a single exception: a one acre block of ancient vine Tocai Friulano. Beneath these noble vines, gravel, clay, and sand interweave across the property, forming a complex mosaic of small blocks.

Dan Petroski was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and has the swagger and the accent to prove it. After attending Columbia University where he played football, Dan went to work for Time, Inc. While there, he earned his MBA from NYU and worked his way up the ranks towards a promising future in magazine publishing. A good chunk of his tenure at Time was spent managing advertising clients, which involved considerable schmoozing. This is how Dan learned wine, by walking his expense account through the lists of Manhattan’s top restaurants. Deciding a change of life was in order, he jettisoned to Sicily for a year, where he interned at Valle dell’Acate. While Dan’s intention was to return to New York to sell wine, a harvest invitation from Andy Smith at DuMOL in 2006 was too good to pass up, and Dan left the city again, this time facing west. After harvest, Andy Smith hired Dan as Cellar Master at Larkmead. The following year, Dan was promoted to Assistant Winemaker, ultimately claiming the Larkmead Winemaker title in 2012.

Dan is described by peers as a gifted, instinctual winemaker, with an old world palate. He earned the recognition of San Francisco Chronicle’s Winemaker of the Year in 2017.
